Mt. Airy Forest Ridge Run

Sunday, May 16th, 2010 9:00

Brought to you by Bob Roncker's Running Spot

Mt. Airy Forest is, in fact, the largest park located within a city's limits in the country. Even Central Park can only boast 843 acres, while Mt. Airy holds a massive 1,469.9 acres. This will be Dirt Days longest race at 5.4 miles and 10.8 miles. The Mt. Airy Forest Ridge Run is aptly named, as the runners will get a wilderness experience that mirrors the Sierras at times. The course winds through all of the features Mt. Airy has to offer, such as its lush evergreens, dense harwoods, open meadows, flowing rivers, and of course, hill climbs and ridge traverses. For 2010: The Mt. Airy Forest Ridge Run will have TWO separate races over different distances. There will be a two lap race (10.6) miles that will begin at 9:00 a.m. There will also be a one lap race (5.4 miles) that will start at 9:15 a.m. Each event will be scored separately and both events will count toward the Dirty Dozen points.
